Where’d You Get That Picture?

September 17, 2014

The first question anybody asks when they see the ISR website (www.isresearch.net) has nothing to do with research or the other services we provide.  Nope, everybody wants to know where I got the aerial shot of downtown St. Louis, Missouri.  My answer causes more questions than it answers.

You see, I took the shot from a zeppelin.  With an actual digital camera, not some plastic-lensed smartphone.  In one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life, my father and I went “flight seeing” in the Airship Ventures Zeppelin Eureka in the fall of 2011.  It was like we were floating high above St. Louis; there was no engine noise and little sense of movement.  In fact, the lack of movement is one reason why the picture came out so well.

Just in case you were wondering, Eureka was filled with helium, not the combustible hydrogen that downed the Hindenburg.

Sadly, Airship Ventures folded in 2012.  Eureka was renamed and was sent back to Germany where it continues to delight passengers.  I had no idea one of the scores of pictures I took on my voyage would help brand a company I would found.  Please enjoy your stay at our site.  Click on the links and take a look around.  I really am a better researcher than a photographer!
